First Full Moon of the Year: Wolf Moon in Cancer

First Full Moon of the Year: Wolf Moon in Cancer

Full Wolf Moon in Cancer

It is the first full moon of the year and it is always really exciting because we are starting fresh and harnessing the energy that the full moon brings. Our moods and mindsets change and evolve with the moon cycle. During the full moon energy is high and the time to manifest for the future now. I like to do a in depth ritual myself for the first full moon because it sets the mood for the rest of the cycles to come. It’s also great to reflect when you reach the Cold Moon at the end of the year and really see how far you gone on your Fool’s Journey

The Meaning Behind the Name of the Wolf Moon

My friends and I feel like every moon is a wolf moon. We are the type to go howling at the moon. It’s so majestic and beautiful it is hard not to. The name Wolf Moon comes from Native Americans who would use many seasons natural signifiers for the time of the moon cycles. During this time, it is said the wolves would howl very loudly. Some say it was out of hunger due to the weather and low resources of food available, but we now know that this is a way of communication for wolves. It also is known as the Old Moon and the Ice Moon if you’d like to look up those meanings as well.

Sign of Cancer and What that means for this Full Moon

The sign of Cancer comes with femininity, sensitivity, and understanding. The sign is very empathetic and always ready to be there for someone; Especially someone they love. They are highly aware of patterns and the moods of the people who are around them so do not think your getting a vibe check past a Cancer. During this full moon make sure be aware of your feelings and to express them in a healthy way. You might be feeling especially sensitive and intuitive. It’s probably better to save important or heavy loaded interaction for after you manifested and gone through the Full Moon and the residual days (1-2 days of Waning Gibbous following the Full Moon).

What are the Best Rituals to Practice for this Full Moon?

This is the beginning of the years moon cycles, and you should focus on cleansing and organizing things that are important to you. The Cancer is lead by The Chariot tarot card and that comes with will power, control, and assertion according to the Ostara Tarot Deck. I suggest doing a full moon ritual that includes all the below items:

  • Cleaning Shower/Bath Ritual
  • Moon Milk
  • Full Journal Entry
  • Prosperity Bowl/Jar
  • 10 Ancient Card Tarot Reading
  • Meditation
  • Yoga
  • Self-Care Routine

All these activities are a great way to move into the new Year with abundance and prosperity for manifesting what you want out the year for you and your loved ones. I highly recommend the bath and self-care routine. Celebrating self is a great way to move towards the next steps in your journey as you use the moon as a guide through the year.
